Verfasst wurde das in lateinischer Sprache geschriebene Werk „De re metallica libri XII“ von dem gebürtigen Schweizer Georgius Agricola. 200 Jahre galt dieses Handbuch als ein Standardwerk zur Montanwissenschaft und des praktischen Bergbaus. Es umfasst auch 292 Holzschnitte, die zur Illustration der jeweiligen Materie dienten. Das Lehrbuch wurde in viele Sprachen übersetzt.
Little is known about the qualifications of trainers in further vocational education. Some hold a degree in educational sciences.
