Mit zunehmendem Alter steigt die Wahrscheinlichkeit, kritische Lebensereignisse zu erfahren. Zugleich sind hinsichtlich der Persönlichkeit besondere Entwicklungen möglich – und damit verbunden auch die Fähigkeit, solche kritischen Lebensereignisse zu bewältigen. Wie die Erwachsenen- und Weiterbildung im Allgemeinen und die konfessionelle Erwachsenenbildung im Besonderen dabei unterstützen kann, zeigt der Autor auf.

Familienbildung ist mit ihrer »doppelten Verankerung« in Sozialer Arbeit und Erwachsenenbildung in einem Spannungsfeld zwischen Fürsorge und emanzipatorischer Bildung angesiedelt. Das Heft beleuchtet dieses Spannungsfeld und betrachtet die Bedingungen und die verschiedenen Herausforderungen für die Familienbildung aus erwachsenenpädagogischer Perspektive.
Die Validierung non-formal und informell erworbener Kompetenzen ist schon lange Gegenstand einer Debatte, die stark von Impulsen europäischer Akteure lebt und in Deutschland besonders in der beruflichen Bildung aufgegriffen wurde. Das Heft fragt, ob und inwiefern Kompetenzvalidierung ein Thema der Erwachsenenbildung sein sollte. Wenn die Anerkennung von Kompetenzen als Empowerment erfolgt, können von Validierung auch und gerade Geflüchtete profitieren.
