Vor dem Hintergrund der statistischen Datenlage der Weiterbildung und Erwachsenenbildung in Deutschland unter Berücksichtigung europäischer Aspekte werden die Reichweite und die Möglichkeiten eines BMBF-geförderten Projekts zur Weiterbildungsstatistik (2000-2003) erörtert.
Das Lehrbuch befasst sich mit Sozialisation und informellem Lernen als lebenslangen Aneignungsprozessen. Gesellschaftlich führen diese zu Sozialem Wandel. Individuell beeinflussen sie die Persönlichkeitsentwicklung. Ihre Erforschung zielt auf das Erfassen sozialer Ungleichheiten und den pädagogischen Umgang mit sozialer Differenzierung.
