Das Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung (BMBF) startete im Jahr 2016 die Förderlinie OERinfo zur Förderung von offenen Bildungsmaterialien, die bis 2020 lief. Um für das Thema OER zu sensibilisieren und Multiplikatorinnen und Multiplikatoren zu qualifizieren und zu vernetzen, wurden insgesamt 24 unterschiedliche Projekte finanziert, unter anderem die gleichnamige Informationsstelle Open Educational Resources – OERinfo.
