This article examines learning at the university, which is located in the institutional context of the university with its structural conditions. The analysis of learning at universities opens research perspectives, to which the adult education science can deliver substantial contributions.

The analyses differentiate not only socio-economic and demographic characteristics, but also regional contexts. Some regions show particularities in further education behavior. Additional case studies in these regions reveal enhancing or impeding regional contexts that have an impact on education chances of adults within regions. These regio…
This study starts from a dilemma which has been observed in adult basic education. On the one hand the use of assessments is regarded as supportive in order to determine in detail the learning needs of adults. On the other hand it is to be expected that persons with experiences of performing inadequately show justified anxieties or resistances in connection with test situations.
